Black Pepper is the fruit of the Black Pepper plant, a perennial climbing vine of the family Piperaceae. Black Pepper is native to the Malabar Coast of India and is one of the earliest known and widely used spices globally.1 Many physiological effects of black pepper, its extracts, or its major active principle, piperine, have been reported. It is a powerful antioxidant and has been found to relieve bloating and aid in gastrointestinal functionality.1,2
